Ugh. Ever forget about a bill you set up to pay before going grocery shopping?

At least I have money in savings.

Kinja'd!!!

Bills, bills, bills. Such is life as an adult who needs a new job.

My life is a game of “hmmmm, let’s beat the disconnection notice!”

Fucking mum...

Yep. Been there.

Or when you set up a no-fee overdraft as a back up for when you really need it but the bill goes over it as NetFlix has taken theirs just before the big bill gets taken out.

Yep. Back before text alerts and overdraft protection was I thing I once overdrew by less than a dollar when I ran to the store to buy a half gallon of ice cream that was like $4, because I had forgotten about a bill that was being drafted that day. Then I somehow missed the overdraft notice and didn’t deposit in time to bring the account back to zero, so I got hit with a second overdraft fee. Ended up paying $74 for that ice cream.

You don’t use a credit card for grocery shopping? I use a CC for all my purchases. That way I can consolidate them and pay for them from my checking account at the start of the month.

My simple system, I get paid on the 1st and 15th:

1st of month: Pay aformentioned CC, and rent. Transfer remainder to Vanguard.

15th: Pay Electric, Gas, and Internet. Transfer remainder to Vanguard

Never had to worry about an overdraft because of this.

1/2 of our credit cards are close to maxed out - Had to live on CCs for about six months when my wife was out of work in 2014. Got caught up on 3 and put them in our “Important papers box” The other 3 are being paid down as much as possible.

Also, I never had any good examples in my life when it came to handling money - My parents always lived paycheck-to-paycheck.

BoA is sometimes slow with text alerts. I got the *Your Account Balance is under $25.* and *We’ve Used Overdraft Protection* alerts both when I woke up this morning.

I have a different problem these days - I’m paying down an aunt for help while I was in school, and I never know when she’ll actually cash the big check, so I have a big buffer in my account which only exists so long as she doesn’t do anything. So I look at my account and it claims to have All This Money, but the last thing I want to do is turn a check to my aunt into rubber or (more likely) pull a large amount out of my credit card to cover it.

I use BoA these days. They are slow with everything... but I feel like that is pretty standard across all banks - they don’t seem to move at the pace we think they should with all the technology we have these days. ¯\_()_/¯

Yeah fuck the overdraft fee BoA charges.

Yeah I’ve never understood this at all. I always thought it would make more sense to just decline debit transactions that would put you negative. I’ve never actually overdrawn my BoA account, but when Citizens charge me an extra fee for not paying the overdraft fee in time I closed the account - what part of I don’t have any money did you not understand!
